crmc.org 7 As an innovative organization, Capital Region Medical Center (CRMC) has always strived to set the standard of health care delivery in our community. In 2015 we expanded access to our specialty providers and outpatient services with the addition of the Capital Region Physicians building. In pursuing its tradition of continual improvement, CRMC is once again leading the way in improving access to care with the addition of an outpatient surgery center. A patient-centered design Located on the ground level of the Capital Region Physicians’ office building, the new 24,000-square-foot addition will house four operating rooms, two endoscopic procedure rooms, imaging suites and space to accommodate future growth. All pre- and post-procedure rooms will be private and thoughtfully designed with a patient-centered approach. The decision to expand services in an outpatient setting is part of CRMC’s commitment to innovation, allowing more surgeries and procedures to be conducted on an outpatient basis, thereby allowing patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes. “We have been discussing at length, for more than a year, the need to expand our surgical capacity within our organization,” says Gaspare Calvaruso, CRMC president. “While we had the opportunity to expand our OR on the inpatient side, we took a step back and recognized that the greater benefit to our community would be the enhancement of our outpatient services.” Making care easier to get With an estimated $20 million price tag, the expansion is a significant investment in the health and wellness of mid-Missouri residents. “Our mission is to provide the best care to our community, and this new expansion allows us to deliver top-quality care and exceptional access to all the residents of mid-Missouri. This is truly a remarkable day for our facility, our staff and for our entire community,” adds Marc Ellinger, chairman of the board of directors of CRMC. “We are fortunate to have the ability to keep the outpatient surgery center adjacent to the hospital and physicians’ office building,” notes Randy Haight, MD, CRMC vice president of medical affairs. “The close proximity allows providers to consult with one another easily and eliminates the need for off-campus travel. Additionally, CRMC did not have the added cost of purchasing real estate to move forward on this endeavor.” Plans and architectural schematics are being developed and finalized, and a date for the groundbreaking is still to be determined. Once dirt is turned, construction is expected to last a year and a half.
