6 Capital Region Medical Center By Don Carter, Licensed Social Worker, Capital Region Physicians–Center for Mental Wellness The end of May brought a historic storm as tornadic winds ripped through Jefferson City, Eldon and the surrounding communities, leaving damage and destruction in their wake. And when the winds ceased, the flood waters rose, causing many Jefferson City residents and businesses to vacate and hundreds of roads to be impassable. Our communities are fortunate that much of the damage was done to buildings and structures, rather than loss of human lives. But for many, the emotional upheaval as they feared for their lives and watched as their homes were destroyed will never be forgotten.
